Human resource management needs to take care of numerous aspects of an organization, including recruitment and hiring, providing training and support, and also ensuring developmental and legal compliance. With the growing business world, the challenges of the HR department are also increasing. With major changes and shifts entering the workplace culture, the job of HR is more challenging than ever. In this article, let’s find out the common challenges that your team’s HRM needs to tackle and overcome :

To ensure the health and safety of all the employees :

One of the sole responsibilities of a company’s human resource department is to make sure each and every employee feels healthy and safe within the organization. To achieve this, the human resource department is expected to implement employee training programs to teach them about basic health and safety practices. In this respect, the role of HR becomes even more important in sectors like manufacturing and construction, where their employees are often exposed to risky and highly dangerous workspace conditions. Making sure the employees who work for your organization day and night are healthy and safe is the first step toward organizational empowerment. The HR department should strictly impart laws that enforce immediate shutdown of risky operations in case of accidents and injuries. Build a proper health and safety committee within your workforce to ensure the safety of the employees.

 Attracting and retaining skilled employees :

Another major challenge that HRM faces on a regular basis is not just hiring but being able to retain top talents. Small businesses or startups are struggling to hire and retain quality employees even more, especially as they are constantly under pressure to compete with large and established businesses. Recruitment, in itself, is a complicated task. In addition to this, it is a very tough situation in terms of the retention of newly hired workers. Organizations need to understand that retention can only be possible when they provide their staff with the right benefits and opportunities for growth and a positive work atmosphere. On the other hand, it becomes easier to attract top talents when you have created a strong company brand that speaks about your high-end values. Therefore, what works positively in your favor is creating a solid brand presence and being a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) model that believes in working diligently to give back to society. Creating such brand value would enable your employees to connect with your organization on an emotional level.

Offering enough benefits and compensation to the staff :

Another factor that affects retention is the provision of compensation and benefits for the employees. big corporations and large-sized organizations value the efforts of their employees with proper compensation and benefits. Conversely, small sectors usually cannot afford grand compensation and benefits for their employees, and this eventually affects the turnover rate adversely. Moreover, there are many additional costs, such as taxes, human capital investments, and training charges incurred through the hiring process. In such cases, organizations can offer different types of performance-based attractive benefits coupled with reward programs in order to retain them and boost their performance. Also, consider providing your employees with other benefits like flexible timings, extended vacations, and availability of transportation to make them feel valued.

Including healthy diversity in the workspace :

Nowadays, organizations are trying to create a diversified workplace by including individuals from various cultures, age groups, genders, and nationalities who are coming together to share innovative ideas for the growth of the company. It has been established that working with people belonging to different backgrounds and cultures develops one’s ability to solve problems and think critically. Managing a diverse workforce is very challenging for the human resource department, however. In that respect, it is the duty of the human resource department to cater to the unique needs and requirements of employees regardless of their ethnicity, gender, and age. Also, diversity can result in conflicts arising between the team members. Human resource management must include culture orientation programs as a part of the onboarding process to make sure every individual working within the organization shows respect and compassion towards people of different cultural backgrounds. More and more team building activities could be included to ensure people become more aligned towards others. All in all, it’s essential to create a company culture that is welcoming, positive, and friendly.
